Student ID/Island Health ID

Fill out the Camosun ID card form at this link: https://webservices.camosun.ca/events/camosun-id-cardĀ  Make sure to check the box asking ā€œAre you an HHS student needing a photo for a VIHA practicum Placement?ā€ HHS stand for Health and Human Services and Nursing is part of HHS. For new students, this form can be filled out 14 days prior to the first day of the classes.

Criminal Record Check

You must complete a Criminal Record Check prior to starting the program. Start this process as soon as possible. Visit the Camosun Criminal Record Check website for instructions: https://camosun.ca/registration-records/student-records/criminal-record-check

Students must have a BC Services card to complete the online criminal record check application. Students without a BC services card will have to do a manual application, which takes longer.

TB Test

Provide a scan or photo of a negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray dated within 6 months, or less, of the submission date noted above.

  • In Victoria, book a TB skin test at a travel clinic (links below).
    The cost is $50-$70.

  • Students outside of Victoria can check travel clinics or their local health unit to obtain a test.
  • TB tests can have wait times, book as soon as possible.

Standard First Aid Certificate

Provide a PDF or image of a current ā€œStandard First Aidā€ certificate. This course may also be called ā€œStandard First Aid & CPR C.ā€

  • The course must be two-days long, 16 hours total. A blended delivery (online and in-person) is acceptable.
  • Alert first aid offers this course in Victoria and Vancouver. There is a 10 % off discount code for students: CAMOSUN10. Courses can be taken through any organization.
  • Register at this link for Standard First Aid courses through Alert First Aid.
  • Certificate must be valid for the beginning of your spring practicum (May 1st).

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate

Provide a PDF or image of a current Basic Life Support certificate. BLS must be renewed yearly during the program. Please note that CPR C is not the same as the BLS course.

  • BLS is a four-hour course. This course can be combined with the Oxygen Therapy and Airway Management modules to make a six-hour course (this is recommended as it may reduce the overall cost)
  • Alert first aid offers this course in Victoria and Vancouver. There is a 10 % off discount code for students: CAMOSUN10. Courses can be taken through any organization.
  • Register at this link for BLS + OT and AM modules courses through Alert First Aid
  • Certificate must be valid throughout the program.

Oxygen Therapy Module and Airway Management Module Certificates

Provide PDFs or images of current Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM) certificates.

  • These courses are 1 hour each. These modules are best taken combined with the BLS course above, but can be taken separately.

Violence Prevention Curriculum

The Provincial Practice Education Guidelines require students to complete the BC Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum prior to clinical/practicum placements in high risk areas, such as complex care, neuro, and mental health. If you are placed in one of these settings, you will be notified prior to the start of the spring term. Camosun will arrange and pay for these students to receive the BC Provincial Violence Prevention training.

HHS – Immunization Form

  • Students are highly recommended to maintain current immunizations as per the
    BC Student Practice Education Guidelines on Immunization.
  • Students that do not know their immunization status can discuss this with their health care provider.
    • A blood test may be ordered to confirm immunity.
    • The BC Services Card app is a digital ID from your mobile device. You can use the app to access Health Gateway to view your immunization records.

BSN Name Tags

Every student in our program is required to purchase a BSN name tag. We use them for clinical practice or at events where you will be representing your program (ex: Interdisciplinary Education Festival). Please follow this link to order your name tag: Order Name Tag Here

Mask Fit TestingĀ 

Students are required to have yearly respirator mask ā€œfit-testingā€ done. Fitting will be scheduled by the school after classes startĀ and students will be responsible for completing this process prior to the patient contact in a clinical setting and clinical experience and for any associated costs.
